Patrick Mahomes shares how Fernando Mendoza’s rookie year reminds him of debut Chiefs season

Patrick Mahomes compared Las Vegas Raiders rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza sitting behind veteran Kirk Cousins to his own rookie season with the Kansas City Chiefs. Following the Chiefs' 30-27 victory over the Raiders, Mahomes explained that learning behind an established professional will significantly benefit Mendoza's long-term development in the NFL.

Mahomes reflected on his debut 2017 season when he backed up Alex Smith before taking over as the starting quarterback the following year. He praised Cousins' professionalism and suggested that sitting on the sideline provides Mendoza with the right foundation to adapt to the league.
