I've been watching Easton Cowan closely this season, partly because I think he’ll be an important player for the Toronto Maple Leafs and partly because young players are just interesting to watch.
Professor Press Box argues that the Toronto Maple Leafs may have found Easton Cowan's optimal role alongside veterans Nick Paul and Colton Sissons. The writer highlights that early in the season, this forward combination held a 25–10 advantage in shot attempts while handling tough matchups against the Islanders and Senators.
The writer notes that Paul and Sissons provide defensive support and physical wall play, freeing Cowan to act as a puck carrier and playmaker. Additionally, Cowan deliberately chose to maintain his weight around 190 pounds to gain strength without losing the essential skating speed that defines his game.
