John Collins has reflected on his scuffle with Dillon Brooks during the Detroit Pistons’ preseason opener. The Pistons defeated the Phoenix Suns 109-107 at Little Caesars Arena, but the result was not the biggest talking point from the game.
Detroit Pistons forward John Collins addressed his altercation with Phoenix Suns wing Dillon Brooks during Detroit's 109-107 preseason victory at Little Caesars Arena. Minutes into the game, Collins grabbed Brooks around the neck following multiple physical rebounding fouls. Collins received a Flagrant 1 foul, while Brooks was assessed a technical foul after players, coaches, and security intervened to break up the confrontation.
Speaking after his debut, Collins admitted the reaction was spontaneous rather than an intentional effort to set a tone, but insisted he was glad he stood his ground. Collins, who signed a three-year, $51 million contract with Detroit in the offseason, noted that physicality is sometimes necessary when competing.
