The ICC will not introduce any new multilateral tournaments before 2031, after England, Australia and India said there is no room in the international calendar.
The International Cricket Council has postponed plans for a World Club Championship and any other new multilateral tournaments until at least 2031. The decision followed strong opposition from the cricket boards of England, Australia, and India during a cricket operations workshop in Dubai. The outcome ensures that the upcoming Future Tours Programme cycle running from 2027 to 2031 will maintain its existing structure without additional ICC-organised competitions.
The 'Big Three' boards rejected the proposals citing heavily congested schedules filled with bilateral commitments and existing marquee ICC events. The ICC had explored expanding tournaments following a strategic review by McKinsey, which raised concerns about potential declines in future broadcast revenue after the merger of Disney Star and Viacom 18 into JioStar in India.
