The off-spinner played only two Tests in the past 12 months but remains in ECB plans for the 2026-27 contract cycle.
Shoaib Bashir is set to retain his England central contract for the 2026-27 cycle despite playing only two Tests in the past 12 months. The England and Wales Cricket Board's official announcement has been postponed to next week. Bashir's retention highlights the ECB's strategy of providing player security despite limited appearances, following a team rebalance caused by Ben Stokes' international retirement.
Stokes and Mark Wood will drop off the central contract list following their retirements, freeing up salary funds. Other players expected to secure deals or renewals include Jordan Cox, Emilio Gay, Dan Lawrence, Ollie Robinson, Tom Banton, and Rehan Ahmed. Bashir is expected to return to contention for England's February tour of Bangladesh.
