In the final home opener of Alex Ovechkin's NHL career Wednesday, it's only fitting that he and the Washington Capitals will face fellow legend Sidney Crosby and the rival Pittsburgh Penguins.
Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals will host Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday in the final home opener of Ovechkin's NHL career. The 41-year-old winger announced on Monday that his 22nd NHL season will be his last, entering the matchup as the league's all-time goals leader with 929.
Wednesday marks the 76th regular-season meeting between Ovechkin and Crosby, with Pittsburgh holding a 43-28-4 edge in the series. Both teams enter the game following losses, as the Capitals fell 3-1 to Tampa Bay and the Penguins dropped a 3-2 decision to Winnipeg.
