Since joining the San Jose Sharks organization, Will Smith has been forced to play outside of his natural position. While the concerns surrounding his ability to be an effective center at the NHL level could be valid, we can't know…

Writer William Espy argues that the San Jose Sharks should give forward Will Smith an opportunity to play center. Following an injury to Macklin Celebrini, Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky reportedly tested Smith at center during Monday's practice, slotting him between Mason Marchment and Igor Chernyshov.
Espy contends that testing Smith at his natural position now will bolster San Jose's long-term center depth and clarify the roster's emergency options. Smith's skills coach Dan Holland also voiced confidence in Smith's defensive reads and natural fit at center.
