Swansea City signed the defender over the summer on a free transfer following the end of his contract at Celtic.

Swansea City defender Stephen Welsh faced media criticism following his performance in Scotland's 2-1 Nations League defeat against Slovenia at Hampden Park. Writing for the Edinburgh Evening News, journalist Lewis Anderson rated the 26-year-old center-back 4/10, noting that Welsh had a tough night and that his positioning at times was "extremely poor." Ryan Christie opened the scoring for Scotland before the hosts fell apart in the second half under manager Sebastien Pocognoli.
Welsh joined Swansea City on a free transfer from Celtic during the summer and has adapted well under manager Vitor Matos. Despite his struggles during his third international cap, the defender has gained regular minutes in the Championship following Cameron Burgess' injury, helping the Swans sit atop the table ahead of their upcoming match against Norwich City.
