Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Ramon Vega says he intends to stand as a candidate in next year's Fifa presidential election.

Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Ramon Vega has announced his intention to stand as a candidate in the 2027 Fifa presidential election. The 55-year-old former Switzerland international is the first challenger to emerge against current president Gianni Infantino. Vega stated that he is running to deliver reform, restore credibility, and rebuild trust across global football governance.
Infantino has faced calls to resign from UEFA, Concacaf, and the Asian Football Confederation over plans to sell World Cup stakes to private investors. Vega previously considered running in 2015 and 2019, but failed to secure the required backing from five member federations in his earlier bid.
