The former Wales coaches could easily face their former employers in the next year

Former Wales head coach Warren Gatland is reportedly in contention to take over as the head coach of Fiji. Former South Africa boss Jake White is considered the leading candidate, while Gatland's former assistant Shaun Edwards has also been linked to the role. The Fiji Rugby Union is searching for a replacement for Mick Byrne, who departed in April, with a full-time appointment expected next week.
Gatland has been without a full-time position since leaving Wales during the 2025 Six Nations. If appointed, Gatland could face his former team at the World Cup next year, as Fiji and Wales are potential Round of 16 opponents. Fiji are also preparing for upcoming fixtures against Japan, France, Ireland, and Italy.
