The New York Yankees were swept out of the postseason following a 4-3 defeat to the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 3 of the ALDS in the Bronx. The victory sends Tampa Bay to the ALCS and marks the first time since 1980 that the Yankees have been swept in a best-of-five playoff series.
Victor Mesa Jr. hit a decisive two-run home run off Max Fried in the sixth inning to put the Rays ahead for good. Fried surrendered four runs on seven hits over 5.2 innings, while Tampa Bay reliever Bryan Baker sealed the sweep in the ninth by striking out Trent Grisham for the final out.
