Former Celtic defender Glenn Loovens has backed summer signing Joel van den Berg to be a major success at the club. The 19-year-old Dutch midfielder joined Celtic from PSV Eindhoven in a permanent deal worth £3.5 million late in the transfer window but has yet to make an appearance after suffering an injury that required a moon boot.
Loovens believes Van den Berg will thrive once fully fit, noting that senior players Callum McGregor and James Forrest will be vital to his progression. In contrast, Loovens suggested fellow new signing Jordan Lotomba will serve primarily as squad depth once right-back Alistair Johnston returns to action.
