The Story in 60 Seconds

Southampton head coach Tonda Eckert avoided an immediate ban after an FA Regulatory Commission identified substantial mitigation in his disciplinary case. The 33-year-old was handed a six-week suspension from football activity, suspended until the end of the 2027/28 season, alongside a £28,000 fine and a reprimand after admitting three breaches of FA Rule E3.1 regarding the observation of opposition training.

The commission determined that Eckert genuinely did not know spying on training breached English regulations, citing his previous coaching experience in Germany and Italy. The panel also deemed him an exceptionally impressive witness and chose to suspend the six-week ban to avoid inflicting further sporting punishment on Southampton and their supporters.
