History repeated itself, just in reverse, during the bottom of the seventh during Game 3 of the ALDS from The Bronx on Wednesday night as Anthony Volpe drilled a ball to left field.

Anthony Volpe and the New York Yankees were on the losing end of a fan interference review during Game 3 of the ALDS on Wednesday. Initially ruled a game-tying home run against the Tampa Bay Rays, Volpe's hit to left field was overturned to an RBI double after replay confirmed a fan reached into the field of play. The Yankees ultimately lost the elimination game 4-3.
The overturned call drew widespread comparisons to the famous 1996 ALCS play involving 12-year-old Jeffrey Maier, which favored Derek Jeter and the Yankees nearly 30 years ago. MLB's Replay Center noted that the ball would not have left the field without interference, bringing home George Lombard Jr. while keeping Volpe at second base.
