Did the Whitecaps’ championship dreams die on Soldier Field’s awful pitch?

The Province questions whether the Vancouver Whitecaps' title ambitions were derailed following a disjointed 3-1 defeat to the Chicago Fire at Soldier Field. Played on a poor, worn NFL playing surface, the rescheduled match featured a high-profile matchup between former teammates Thomas Müller and Robert Lewandowski.

The Province argues the degraded pitch was an appalling look for Major League Soccer and reflected Vancouver's disorganized performance. Missing regular starters Ralph Priso, Édier Ocampo, and Andrés Cubas due to international duty, as well as injured Jeevan Badwal, the Western Conference leaders now face a grueling multi-game road trip.
