The Tigers' streakiness and extreme scoring ultimately doomed their 2026 season.

Katrina Stebbins reports that the Detroit Tigers' volatile 2026 season was defined by extreme scoring, leading the league with 88 feast-or-famine games. The team recorded 57 games scoring two or fewer runs and 31 games scoring eight or more. Detroit failed to return to .500 after May 4 and missed out on securing a Wild Card spot despite briefly holding one during the campaign.
Stebbins notes that injuries contributed significantly to Detroit's struggles, with Gleyber Torres limited to 96 games and Riley Greene sidelined during August and September. While young prospects like Kevin McGonigle and Max Clark gained major league experience toward the end of the season, Stebbins argues that front office leader Scott Harris must oversee further development for Detroit to achieve consistency in 2027.
