South Africa fast bowler Kagiso Rabada misses out on the first Test of the three-match series against Australia in Durban as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury suffered in June.

Kagiso Rabada has been ruled out of South Africa's first Test against Australia in Durban as he continues his recovery from a June hamstring injury. South Africa opted for a conservative approach with the fast bowler while handing a surprise recall to 32-year-old pacer Anrich Nortje, who has not played first-class cricket in over three years. Captain Temba Bavuma also selected twin spinners Simon Harmer and Keshav Maharaj for the series opener.
Australia are considering recalling 34-year-old batter Nic Maddinson, who last played Test cricket in 2016 and was added as injury cover for Cameron Green and Josh Inglis. Former Australian opener Matthew Hayden strongly criticized the potential selection, arguing that picking players with lower first-class averages disrespects the format.
