The Cincinnati Bengals‘ offense appears to have taken a step backward while their defense has made significant progress. Cincinnati has started 2-2 after consecutive losses, with the offense struggling to turn strong passing production into consistent results.
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow highlighted the need for a more balanced offense, emphasizing that revitalizing the run game is critical. Cincinnati started the season 2-2 following consecutive losses, despite Burrow throwing for 1,171 yards and seven touchdowns through four games. In a 22-17 defeat against Jacksonville, the offense managed just 23 rushing yards on 15 attempts, forcing Burrow to attempt 54 passes.
The Bengals have collected only 297 rushing yards through four weeks despite spending the offseason developing an under-center scheme. Analyst Steve Smith Sr. echoed similar concerns on ESPN's Get Up, noting that Cincinnati has become overly reliant on Burrow and receiver Ja'Marr Chase, who recently suffered a concussion.
