India’s bowling was exposed in Jasprit Bumrah’s absence during the T20I series in England; Bhuvi inclusion may also have been based on conditions in New Zealand

India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak stated that veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar was recalled to the national T20I squad for the upcoming series against New Zealand primarily for his valuable experience. The 36-year-old seamer last played for India in November 2022 but earned a recall following strong domestic and franchise performances.
Kotak highlighted that India's bowling attack struggled without Jasprit Bumrah during their July tour of England. Bhuvneshwar's form for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, taking 48 wickets across two title-winning seasons, alongside favorable conditions in New Zealand, supported the selectors' decision to bring him back into the fold.
