The Pittsburgh Pirates have promoted Justin Newman to the role of director of domestic amateur scouting. Newman previously served as the club's director of player analysis and has been with the organization since joining as an intern in 2017. The position was overseen on an interim basis in 2026 by assistant general manager Kevan Graves following Justin Horowitz's departure to the Nationals.
General manager Ben Cherington recently confirmed plans to fill the position permanently following the club's 82-80 season. Newman, who previously worked as a lead quantitative analyst, contributed to scouting efforts during drafts that brought in key prospects, including Paul Skenes and Konnor Griffin.
