The Ottawa Senators defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 on Thursday night in Ottawa's home opener, extending Philadelphia's winless start to the season. Nick Cousins opened the scoring for Ottawa before Matvei Michkov tied the game with a power-play goal off an initial shot from Trevor Zegras. Carter Yakemchuk secured the victory for the Senators with a game-winning goal assisted by Claude Giroux.
Despite the loss, the Flyers produced a season-high 29 shots on goal and outshot an opponent for the first time this season. Goaltender Joseph Woll stopped 24 of 26 shots in his third start for Philadelphia, while Linus Ullmark delivered a strong performance in net for Ottawa.
