Writer Adam Gretz argues that the Philadelphia Flyers face legitimate cause for concern after suffering a 2-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators, dropping them to 0-5 on the season. The Flyers remain the only winless team in the Eastern Conference, becoming the 26th NHL team in the salary cap era to open a season with five straight defeats.
Only one of the previous 25 teams to start 0-5 reached the postseason, which was Philadelphia in 2008-09. Gretz notes that the team has scored just six total goals, ranking 31st in the league in expected goals per 60 minutes despite featuring young talents Trevor Zegras, Matvei Michkov, and Porter Martone.
