Every team has a really bad game at least once in a season. Unfortunately for the Utah Mammoth, their ugly loss came just five games into the season. Thursday’s 6-1 loss to the Boston Bruins can be called many things…
The Utah Mammoth suffered a 6-1 defeat to the Boston Bruins on Thursday, experiencing a difficult setback five games into their season. Jack McBain scored Utah's lone goal by tipping Dmitri Simashev's shot, ruining Jeremy Swayman's shutout bid, but the Mammoth struggled across all facets of the game. Special teams proved especially damaging, with Utah going 0-for-7 on the power play and surrendering three goals on four penalty kills.
Goaltender Sebastian Cossa allowed three goals on eight shots in the opening 15 minutes before Karel Vejmelka relieved him and conceded three more. Forward Clayton Keller noted that the team hung Cossa out to dry, while head coach André Tourigny emphasized that the lopsided result must serve as a collective learning experience ahead of their upcoming game against the Buffalo Sabres.
