The order is to remain in effect until Dec. 29, the document states.

An emergency protective order has been granted against former NBA player J.R. Smith after allegations that he caused serious bodily injury to a woman in Texas. The order requires Smith to maintain zero communication with the woman except through legal counsel, stay at least 333 yards away from her home and workplace, and surrender any firearms or ammunition. The protective order remains in effect through December 29.
Smith was arrested on September 28 during a traffic stop in Royse City, Texas, and was subsequently charged with assault causing bodily injury family violence before being released on a $5,000 bond. His attorney, Justin A. Moore, stated that Smith maintains his innocence, has full confidence in the legal process, and is eager to resolve the case in court.
