Exploring whether or not it would be worth it to move Addison Barger to second base to help the Toronto Blue Jays address some of their offensive woes before 2027.

Jays Journal's Matthew Sookram argues that the Toronto Blue Jays should transition Addison Barger to second base ahead of the 2027 season. Barger was limited to just nine games in 2026 due to ankle, back, and elbow issues, culminating in right elbow UCL repair surgery in July. Moving him to second base could address Toronto's middle-infield uncertainty following Ernie Clement's late-season decline.
Sookram notes that moving Barger would reduce strain on his recovering throwing elbow and establish an effective infield platoon with Clement. Additionally, shifting Barger out of the outfield would provide the Blue Jays with greater roster flexibility to pursue outfield upgrades, while avoiding an expensive free-agent contract at second base.
