Five games into the 2026-27 season, the Canucks have been taking a lot of penalties at bad times.

The Vancouver Canucks have struggled with ill-timed penalties through the first five games of the 2026–27 NHL season, according to The Hockey News. Vancouver has accumulated 20 minor penalties—averaging 4.37 penalties per 60 minutes—and has committed at least three minor infractions in every contest, placing them near the top of the league in total penalties taken.
The Hockey News highlights specific instances where infractions halted positive momentum or triggered deficits. Infractions by Linus Karlsson, Marco Rossi, and Drew O'Connor directly contributed to opponent power-play goals or erased scoring momentum in games against the Edmonton Oilers and Carolina Hurricanes.
