Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev left Saturday's game against the Colorado Avalanche with an upper-body injury and did not return. The team confirmed his departure prior to the start of the second period. Tanev exited the contest after the 11:08 mark of the first period, appearing to overextend his shoulder while defending a shot on goal.
The 36-year-old entered Saturday's contest having registered one assist in six games this season while averaging 19:31 of ice time. Head coach Jim Hiller started Tanev on a pairing with Morgan Rielly, while defenseman Nick Blankenburg scored Toronto's opening goal during his season debut.
