Nathan MacKinnon scored twice to erase an early deficit and give the Colorado Avalanche a 2-1 lead over the Toronto Maple Leafs after 20 minutes.

Nathan MacKinnon scored twice, but the Colorado Avalanche fell 5-3 to the Toronto Maple Leafs in Denver. Despite MacKinnon giving Colorado a 2-1 lead in the first period, defensive issues and goaltending struggles allowed Toronto to take control. William Nylander starred for the Maple Leafs, tying a career high with five points on two goals and three assists.
Brock Nelson also scored for Colorado, while Auston Matthews netted two goals and Easton Cowan and Nick Blankenburg added one each for Toronto. Maple Leafs goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky made 30 saves on 33 shots, whereas Mackenzie Blackwood conceded five goals on 22 shots for the Avalanche.
