Phillies Face Another Setback as Alex Cora Turns Them Down Again With $7.25 M Red Sox Commitment Looming
Key Things to Know
  • Alex Cora turned down a second managerial offer from the Philadelphia Phillies to prioritize time with his family.
  • The Boston Red Sox still owe Cora a guaranteed $7.25 million salary through the 2027 season.
  • Dave Dombrowski and Cora previously won the 2018 World Series together with the Red Sox.
The Story in 60 Seconds

Alex Cora has reportedly rejected an offer from Dave Dombrowski to manage the Philadelphia Phillies for a second time following their playoff exit. The Phillies previously approached Cora in April after he was fired by the Boston Red Sox. Instead of returning to the dugout, Cora has chosen to remain with his family in Puerto Rico ahead of his planned marriage in November.

Cora's decision is aided by the $7.25 million in guaranteed salary still owed to him by the Red Sox for the final year of his contract. With Cora unavailable, the Phillies must now decide whether to reopen their managerial search or officially hire interim manager Don Mattingly.
