The Chicago White Sox were eliminated from the postseason after losing 2-0 to the Cleveland Guardians in Game 5 of the ALDS on October 10, 2026. Cleveland won three consecutive games after falling behind 2-0 in the series to advance to the ALCS. José Ramírez delivered the decisive blow with a two-run home run off Chicago starter Sean Burke in the fourth inning.
Cleveland starter Gavin Williams held the White Sox hitless over 5 ⅔ innings before reliever Eric Sabrowski ended a bases-loaded threat. The White Sox offense set an MLB postseason record for a nine-inning game by striking out 21 times, including four strikeouts each from Munetaka Murakami and Andrew Benintendi.
