The Story in 60 Seconds

Everton left-back Vitaliy Mykolenko has returned to Finch Farm early from international duty following a reportedly mishandled leg injury. According to Ukrainian journalist Ihor Burbas, Ukraine's medical staff cleared Mykolenko to train despite leg pain, which intensified during the session. After playing 90 minutes in a 1-0 win against Hungary, he was ruled out of subsequent Nations League fixtures and sent back to his club.

Everton's medical team subsequently determined that Mykolenko should not have been training in that condition. Michael Kenrick notes that the injury creates a serious problem for manager David Moyes, as Mykolenko is Everton's only senior left-back and has started seven matches this season.
