Superstar fullback James Tedesco is reportedly battling a niggling injury knock which Kevin Walters has revealed could be a major factor in the Kangaroos’ No.1 selection decision.
Australian Kangaroos coach Kevin Walters is weighing a major selection decision at fullback between James Tedesco and Reece Walsh ahead of their World Cup opener against New Zealand. Reporter Danny Weidler revealed that the 33-year-old Tedesco was seen with a bandage on his knee at training following a grueling NRL premiership run with the Sydney Roosters. Walters acknowledged that the toll of Tedesco's grand final campaign could factor into the final lineup choice.
Walters noted that both Tedesco and Walsh split repetitions at fullback during training, emphasizing that selection remains undecided for the clash. While Walsh previously led Australia in the 2025 Ashes series, he is also returning from a syndesmosis injury suffered in late August. Walters stated he plans to rotate players throughout the tournament's opening three rounds to ensure the full 23-man squad gets an opportunity to perform.
