Hamburg midfielder Immanuel Pherai spoke after featuring in a CONCACAF Nations League match in Guatemala in which his Suriname team reported extensive racist abuse.

Hamburg midfielder Immanuel Pherai described Suriname's CONCACAF Nations League match in Guatemala as the worst match of his career following severe racist abuse from the crowd. Pherai revealed that fans shouted slurs during the national anthem and directed monkey noises, insults, and thrown bottles at teammate Richonell Margaret after a red card.
Following a formal complaint from the Surinamese Football Association, CONCACAF confirmed it is investigating the discriminatory conduct. The match ended in a 1-0 victory for Guatemala, after which a mass brawl broke out on the pitch.
