Tottenham went big in the summer transfer window while Manchester United held back, but both are struggling.

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur face each other on Saturday at Old Trafford following contrasting summer transfer strategies that have yielded difficult starts to the Premier League season. Tottenham spent £334m on ten new recruits, including £100m on Sandro Tonali under manager Roberto De Zerbi, but currently sit bottom of the table without a win. Manchester United spent £163m primarily on midfielders Youri Tielemans, Andrey Santos, and Carlos Baleba to build squad depth under Michael Carrick.
Sky Sports analysts highlighted the growing scrutiny on both clubs' hierarchies, noting that Manchester United directors Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada face pressure alongside Carrick. Meanwhile, former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood criticized Spurs' new signings for underachieving, while reporter Michael Bridge argued that Tottenham still lack a definitive starting goalkeeper and a natural center-forward despite their heavy spending.
