I am going to take a break from my free agent posts to present a trade hypothetical. And I am very careful to call it a hypothetical, because I realize some responses will be “this team will not do that.”…

Viva El Birdos writer Gabe Simonds proposed a hypothetical trade between the St. Louis Cardinals and Cleveland Guardians involving outfielder Steven Kwan. Simonds argues Kwan would provide a major defensive upgrade in center field alongside a high on-base percentage, noting Cleveland might explore trading him because his projected arbitration salary could reach $11 million to $12 million.
To balance the deal, Simonds suggests St. Louis offer catcher Ivan Herrera, citing Herrera's surplus value and limited defensive fit on the Cardinals roster. In exchange, Simonds proposes the Cardinals receive both Kwan and 34-year-old reliever Matt Festa to boost their bullpen.
