Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has stated that Tottenham made a mistake by not signing a more potent goalscorer than Solanke and Marmoush.
Writing in his Sky Sports column, pundit Paul Merson argued that Tottenham Hotspur made a mistake by failing to sign an out-and-out striker during the summer transfer window. His comments followed Tottenham's 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford, where Dominic Solanke rescued a late point after Rodrigo Bentancur was sent off and Bryan Mbeumo had put United ahead. Despite dominating, Roberto De Zerbi's side remained winless in 18th place with just three goals scored in six league matches.
Merson stated that while Solanke is a solid player, he is not a natural goalscorer capable of converting key chances consistently. Summer additions Savinho, Omar Marmoush, and loanee Mykhailo Mudryk have yet to register a league goal contribution, while Richarlison was omitted from the 25-man squad. According to the report, Tottenham are now planning to pursue a dedicated center-forward in the upcoming January transfer window.
