John McEnroe has stirred controversy with his take on the current tennis calendar, taking a stance that opposed Carlos Alcaraz's comments on the packed schedule.

Tennis fans criticized John McEnroe after the former World No. 1 dismissed player complaints regarding the demanding modern ATP Tour schedule. Speaking on Spanish radio program El Larguero, McEnroe argued that his generation played more matches than current professionals, countering recent remarks made by Carlos Alcaraz regarding player fatigue and injuries. Supporters reacted negatively online, arguing that today's tennis is vastly more physically intense than it was during McEnroe's era.
Despite disagreeing with Alcaraz's perspective on the calendar, McEnroe praised the Spaniard as his favorite player to watch. He also welcomed Alcaraz's successful return from a wrist injury after defending his title at the Japan Open.
