Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. (ribs) was scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday. The NFC South franchise reportedly heard the news it wanted.
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. received encouraging news after an MRI revealed his rib injury is not considered serious, according to ESPN insider Adam Schefter. Penix suffered the injury during the fourth quarter of Atlanta's 30-23 overtime loss against the Baltimore Ravens. The Falcons will monitor his progress throughout practice this week before deciding on his availability for Week 6 against the Chicago Bears.
Penix attempted to warm up before overtime against Baltimore but returned to the bench due to pain, leading backup quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to enter the game. While Tagovailoa subsequently threw a game-ending interception, Penix expressed optimism about returning quickly. Across three starts this season, Penix has guided Atlanta to a 2-1 record while the offense averaged 34.3 points per game.
