Calvin Pickard is excited for Tuesday night for multiple reasons. The veteran goaltender is scheduled to make his season debut. He also will make his team debut after joining the Minnesota Wild during the offseason.
Goaltender Calvin Pickard is scheduled to make his Minnesota Wild debut against his hometown club, the Winnipeg Jets, on Tuesday night. The 34-year-old veteran joined Minnesota in the offseason to provide depth while Filip Gustavsson recovers from hip surgery. Pickard has spent the early part of the season backing up Jesper Wallstedt and enters the matchup with a 4-3-1 career record against Winnipeg.
The Jets enter Tuesday's game following a 5-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks, marking their first regulation defeat of the season. Winnipeg continues to navigate the absence of goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, who remains suspended by the team after requesting a trade and failing to report to training camp, leaving Stuart Skinner and Clay Stevenson to handle goaltending duties.
