Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has reportedly been tested as a central defender in training following his return from a knee injury. Manager Hansi Flick previously acknowledged that the Dutch international is capable of featuring in defence. De Jong is aiming to make his first appearance of the season soon after a lengthy layoff.
The potential positional shift is linked to Barcelona's midfield depth and a desire to manage physical strain on De Jong's knee. While left out of Tuesday's Champions League match against Galatasaray, he could return for Saturday's La Liga fixture against Real Betis.
