Exclusive: Newcastle and Aston Villa battling for 20 year-old Bundesliga sensation

Newcastle United and Aston Villa are reportedly competing to sign 20-year-old Bayer Leverkusen striker Christian Kofane in the summer of 2027. Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle is seeking central attacking reinforcements following goalscoring struggles and a recent defeat to Coventry City. Everton also retains an interest after failed attempts by Premier League suitors to sign the Cameroon international earlier in the year.

Leverkusen previously resisted summer approaches and sought to extend Kofane's contract until 2031, but negotiations have reportedly stalled on his current deal that runs through 2029. The forward, who has recorded ten goals and nine assists in 50 appearances for the German club, could be made available at the end of the season if talks remain unresolved.
