Mariners reportedly set to meet with Joe Espada regarding manager job

The Seattle Mariners have received permission to interview Houston Astros manager Joe Espada for their managerial opening. Espada's contract with Houston expires at the end of October, and the Astros have not yet decided whether they will retain him. Over the past three seasons managing Houston, Espada compiled a 256-229 regular-season record and secured two AL West division titles.

Seattle president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto prefers candidates with previous managerial experience and seeks an outside perspective to challenge complacency. Writer David Hill notes that Espada meets Dipoto's criteria and could influence the Mariners' player evaluation and development, though Seattle is expected to interview multiple candidates.
