The EFL Trophy represented a rare chance for Richarlison to secure game time after he was left out of Roberto De Zerbi's Premier League squad.

Exiled Tottenham forward Richarlison scored for the club's Under-21 side against Cheltenham Town in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday night. Playing his first match since being removed from manager Roberto De Zerbi's first-team plans, the Brazilian scored the 1-1 equalizer in an eventual 2-2 draw before Cheltenham won the penalty shootout 7-6.
Richarlison was omitted from Tottenham's Premier League squad after De Zerbi claimed the striker repeatedly expressed a desire to leave. Proposed transfers to Everton, Trabzonspor, and Vasco da Gama all collapsed before the deadline, leaving the forward without senior football until January.
