GOLF Top 100 Teacher Tony Ruggiero explains how he helped a student fix his early extension by treating the root cause of the issue.

Golf instructor Tony Ruggiero explains that fixing early extension requires addressing root swing flaws rather than chasing symptoms. Working with a former mini-tour player named Travis, Ruggiero focused on correcting takeaway clubface angle, trail-arm structure, and hip depth to resolve Travis's habit of standing up out of posture and flipping through impact.
To correct these issues, Ruggiero utilized the AMG Arm Shark training aid to maintain trail-arm width and alignment stick feedback for hip depth. Practicing with slower, three-quarter swings helped Travis shallow his swing path and achieve better center-face contact without directly drilling the early extension itself.
