The ’State of the Game’ report shows how financially screwed some clubs are - here are eight of the most alarming findings

English football clubs face severe financial instability, according to a draft 'State of the Game' report released by the Independent Football Regulator. The report found that 94% of the 116 clubs across the top five divisions recorded a financial loss last season. Furthermore, more than 60% of EFL and National League clubs are technically insolvent, relying heavily on continuous owner funding to stay afloat.
The findings reveal that total debt across the top five tiers has reached £4.1 billion, with Premier League teams accounting for 75% of the total. In addition, 29% of clubs would be unable to survive longer than 30 days if their owners abruptly stopped funding.
