The Arizona Diamondbacks were reportedly the runners-up to acquire first baseman Luis García Jr. before the Washington Nationals traded him to the New York Yankees at the deadline. According to Joel Sherman of The New York Post, the Yankees could now potentially look to flip García to Arizona this offseason to acquire bullpen assistance, specifically naming relief pitcher Juan Morillo as a speculative target.
Arizona faces pressing needs at first base and designated hitter after missing the playoffs and receiving subpar production from both spots. García, who hit 30 home runs in 2026, faces a crowded position mix in New York with Ben Rice, Giancarlo Stanton, and Aaron Judge, though parting with Morillo would deplete an already thin Diamondbacks relief corps.
