The Cincinnati Reds need a way to keep Elly De La Cruz happy and win more games before he (mostly) inevitably leaves town for a big shiny contract in a few years. What if the best way to do that…

Writer Billy Heyen argues that a Cincinnati Reds trade for Atlanta Braves superstar Ronald Acuña Jr. is financially realistic. The proposal suggests Cincinnati should pursue the outfielder to pair him with Elly De La Cruz and push for postseason contention before De La Cruz eventually reaches free agency.
According to Heyen, Acuña’s contract features affordable $17 million club options for both 2027 and 2028. The piece notes that while the acquisition would require significant prospect assets, the manageable salary makes a trade feasible for small-market clubs like Cincinnati.
