Hamburger SV have confirmed that captain Nicolai Remberg suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear in his right knee. The 26-year-old defensive midfielder sustained the injury during Saturday's 3-2 Bundesliga victory over TSG Hoffenheim, with an MRI scan confirming the damage on Sunday.
Remberg is now set to undergo surgery and faces a rehabilitation period expected to sideline him for several months. Head coach Merlin Polzin expressed disappointment over losing the captain, who has made 40 competitive appearances since joining from Holstein Kiel.
