The Dallas Cowboys released 25-year-old cornerback Alex Austin from their practice squad on Tuesday. Austin had only been with Dallas briefly, having signed on September 30 to provide depth during a wave of injuries across the team's secondary. Alongside Austin's release, the Cowboys announced the signing of running back Emari Demercado and added guard Nick Leverett to the practice squad.
Austin was originally drafted in the seventh round by the Buffalo Bills in 2023 and previously spent three seasons with the New England Patriots, playing in 29 games. Following his release from Dallas, the cornerback is now a free agent eligible to sign with any NFL team, while the 2-3 Cowboys prepare for a Week 6 matchup against the Green Bay Packers.
