The Chicago Cubs are not ruling out a free-agent pursuit of Tarik Skubal this offseason, even after the Los Angeles Dodgers acquired the two-time Cy Young Award winner at the trade deadline.
The Chicago Cubs are not ruling out a free-agent pursuit of star left-handed pitcher Tarik Skubal this offseason, according to Patrick Mooney of The Athletic. Following a Wild Card Series sweep by the San Diego Padres, Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer has stated that improving pitching is the club's primary focus heading into the winter.
Skubal, who won two Cy Young Awards with Detroit before a deadline trade to the Los Angeles Dodgers, is projected to command an eight-year free-agent deal worth roughly $355 million. While the Dodgers and New York Mets are viewed as top contenders, Chicago previously showed deadline interest and could target the ace to lead its rotation.
